How to Choose a CPA in Austin
You don’t need a generic “tax preparer”. You need to figure out what work you actually need. Ask 3 questions:
- Have they filed a Texas franchise-tax Public Information Report
- If you are in tech, have they handled RSU/ESPP withholding shortfalls (common for employees Dell, Oracle, Tesla, and Apple)
- And do they work year round, or only from January through April?
Finding a CPA can be difficult. It takes time to research and understand whether that person will be able to meet your needs. That’s why I built a free concierge form that you can submit and I will find you the perfect match.
Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the difference between a CPA and an accountant?
A CPA is someone who has undergone extensive training, typically earning a bachelor’s or master’s degree in accounting, passing a rigorous four-part exam, and gaining sufficient experience providing tax or accounting services. How much does a CPA typically cost in Austin?
If you want to estimate how much a CPA in Austin will cost you based on the complexity needed, use our FindCPA Fee Calculator.
But generally, quotes in 2026 are about $250-$550 for a simple individual return, $550-$1,800 when you add self-employment, rentals, K-1s, or RSUs, and $1,200-$3,000 for a single-state S-corp or LLC plus the Texas franchise-tax report.
Do I still need a CPA if Texas has no state income tax?
Yes, if you have a business entity, equity compensation, rentals or need tax planning.
When should an Austin homeowner protest property taxes?
